About Penobscot

Penobscot County is the third-most populated county in Maine, with a population of approximately 152,000 people, and covers an area of 3,557 square miles. The county seat is located in the city of Bangor.

Penobscot County is home to a number of communities, including the cities of Bangor and Brewer, as well as several towns, such as Old Town, Orono, Hampden, and Hermon. The county is located in central Maine and is bordered by Aroostook County to the north, Somerset County to the west, Hancock County to the south, and Washington County to the east.

It is home to several parks and wilderness areas, including Baxter State Park, which features Mount Katahdin, the highest peak in Maine.

Penobscot County is home to several institutions of higher learning, including the University of Maine, Husson University, and Eastern Maine Community College. The county is also home to several cultural attractions, including the Maine Discovery Museum, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, and the Penobscot Theatre Company.
